The Englewood Health orthopedics team provides expert care for damaged hip and knee joints. In many cases, this involves a total joint replacement.

Replacing a joint can relieve pain and help you move and feel better. During this procedure, your orthopedic surgeon removes your damaged joint and replaces it with an artificial one. Joint replacement is performed at Englewood Hospital.

Englewood Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for both hip and knee replacement, in recognition of a commitment to providing safe and effective patient care, since 2008.

From the moment you schedule surgery through the rehabilitation phase, the joint replacement team will be with you every step of the way. Our team includes orthopedic surgeons and physician assistants, patient care navigator, nurses, nurse practitioners, anesthesiology providers, physical and occupational therapists, pain management experts, and care coordination team (case coordinator and social worker). We are with you every step of the way.

Why choose Englewood Health for joint replacement?

We take an individualized and team approach with every patient, including:

  • Using the most appropriate joint replacement technique
  • Offering personalized education for you and your caregivers
  • Collaboration among physicians, home health agencies, skilled nursing facilities, and other providers to ensure you receive coordinated care, while reducing complications and repeat hospital visits.
  • Developing a rehabilitation plan of care to meet your lifestyle needs
  • Integrating pain management and complementary healing techniques to optimize comfort and recovery

Joint University: Pre-operative Education Class

We are committed to having our patients be active, informed partners in their care. Our Joint University is an educational seminar for patients planning to undergo joint replacement surgery. At the seminar, patients and their caregivers (loved ones who will help the patient through recovery) will meet our team of experts, learn more about the joint replacement process and recovery, and have questions answered. Joint University is also designed to help alleviate any apprehension the patient may have about the surgery and healing process.

Planning for Recovery

Your care team works with you and your caregiver to develop a plan for recovery after discharge.

While the plan can always be modified, they will work on getting you safely home and back to your normal activities as quickly as possible. Many patients can go directly home with the services of a visiting nurse and physical therapist beginning the next day. Some patients will need to go to an inpatient rehabilitation center for a short period. Your patient care navigator will remain your advocate and partner throughout this recovery phase to help you obtain the safest, highest-quality care possible.

Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) Model

Englewood Hospital participates in the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) model mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This Medicare model aims to promote quality and financial accountability for care surrounding lower-extremity joint replacement (LEJR) procedures, commonly referred to as hip and knee replacements and/or other major leg procedures. As a participating hospital, we are accountable for the costs and quality of related care for hip or knee replacements and other major leg procedures. Accountability begins at the time of admission through 90 days after the patient leaves the hospital and is known as an “episode of care.”

Depending on our quality and cost performance during the episode, our hospital will either earn a financial reward or be required to repay Medicare for a portion of the spending above an established target. As a result, patients can expect that we will actively work with physicians, home health agencies, skilled nursing facilities and other providers to ensure they receive the coordinated care they need, while reducing complications and repeat hospital visits.
