A specialized area equipped to meet the needs of babies born prematurely or needing additional medical care

The NICU at Englewood Hospital is a specialized area equipped to meet the needs of babies who require additional medical care.

Babies may need to be admitted to the NICU for various reasons, including premature birth, low birth weight, hypoglycemia, jaundice, feeding difficulties, or the need for ongoing monitoring and observation.

Here are a few things to note about our NICU:

  • Your baby will be cared for 24 hours a day by an extensive team of medical professionals, including neonatologists, pediatric hospitalists, neonatal nurses, child life specialists, and lactation consultants, among others.
  • We will provide you with information about what is happening with your baby throughout your stay and will be available to you 24 hours a day, seven days a week to answer any questions you have.
  • When you are unable to be with your baby, our NICU staff will coordinate a live video stream through NicView, a secure web camera that feeds directly to your personal device.

Visiting Hours and Policies

Parents (or mother and support person) identified with a NICU wristband may stay at the infant’s bedside except during nursing shift change (6:30 – 7:30 a.m. and p.m.). The NICU is a locked unit for your baby’s safety. Please review our full visiting hours and policies, which are subject to change based on incidence of flu, COVID-19, and other respiratory illnesses in our community.

Family Rooms

To facilitate bonding and breastfeeding, we have a limited number of sleeper rooms available for parents, based on your baby’s individual needs and condition. For more information, speak to your nurse or call our Patient Relations department at 201-894-3368.

Support Resources

During your baby’s stay in the NICU, a designated case coordinator and social worker will arrange for support services that may be required upon your baby’s discharge and can provide one-on-one support for new parents.

In addition, the Gregory P. Shadek Behavioral Care Center, our outpatient mental health program, offers appointments with psychiatrists and social workers for common mental health conditions, such as depression and anxiety.
